Many people see a “Best By” or “Best Before” date on canned goods and assume the food is no longer safe once that date has passed. This common misunderstanding leads to perfectly good food being thrown away. In reality, these dates do not mark the expiration of the product. Instead, they indicate the period when the food is at its peak quality and flavor. With proper storage, canned goods often remain safe to eat well beyond the printed date.
