Jessica needed to learn that relationships, especially those within a family, are not transactional. Love is not a credit to be withdrawn as and when needed. It is meant to be cherished and reciprocated, even when stress and external pressures make it hard to see.
And so, the wedding was postponed. It was a decision that hurt, but it felt right. Jessica needed time to reflect on her words and actions, and perhaps find in herself the kindness and empathy that seemed to have been overshadowed by wedding fever. As for me, I realized that love sometimes means stepping back and letting others grow on their own.
