Search Intensifies in Tucson as Investigation Continues Into Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance

Posted on February 16, 2026 By admin

Authorities in Tucson are continuing an active investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing from her home on January 31, 2026. Law enforcement officials confirmed that her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, voluntarily participated in an extended interview as part of the standard fact-gathering process. Officials emphasized that he has not been arrested and is not facing charges, noting that interviewing family members and those close to a case is a routine step when establishing an accurate timeline of events.

According to investigators, Nancy was last seen after sharing dinner with her daughter, Annie Guthrie, and Cioni. Reports indicate that Cioni drove her home at approximately 9:45 p.m. and observed her entering the residence. Concern grew the following morning when she did not attend church services and failed to answer phone calls. Deputies responding to the home identified details near the entrance that required closer examination, prompting further investigative steps.

As the inquiry progressed, officials revealed that a security camera at the property had been disconnected. Forensic analysis later confirmed that blood located on the porch belonged to Nancy. In light of these findings, investigators expanded the case to consider the possibility of an abduction. Data from her medical alert device reportedly showed a disruption in communication shortly after 2:00 a.m. on February 1. Federal partners, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, have joined local agencies to assist with forensic review and evidence analysis. Authorities reiterated that routine interviews with relatives do not indicate suspicion but are part of standard investigative procedures.

The case has also involved fraudulent ransom messages, leading to the arrest of an unrelated individual accused of attempting to exploit the situation. Meanwhile, search operations remain active in the Catalina Foothills area, supported by specialized teams, aerial resources, and coordinated ground efforts. The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information that could aid the investigation. Officials continue to urge anyone with credible information to contact appropriate law enforcement channels as efforts to locate Nancy Guthrie move forward.
