By late afternoon, I returned to the resort, invigorated by the day’s adventures. I decided to treat myself further by booking a spa session. The soothing massage and calming ambiance of the spa melted away any remaining tension. I realized that I didn’t need their acceptance to enjoy myself; I had the power to create my happiness.
Meanwhile, my husband and his family were starting to notice my absence. They returned to the resort, expecting to find me in the room, perhaps sulking. Instead, they found the room empty and a note on the bedside table: “Exploring the island. See you at dinner.”
Dinner time arrived, and I returned to the restaurant, not knowing what to expect. To my surprise, the table was set for all of us, with an extra chair beside Mark. As I approached, Susan looked up, her expression softening, maybe realizing they might have been too harsh. Richard nodded curtly, while Mark, surprise and relief evident in his eyes, pulled out a chair for me.
