The caption cut deep: “So grateful for my built-in babysitter! #GrandmaToTheRescue #Blessed”

I stared at the screen, the words blurring as tears of frustration welled up in my eyes. Was this how my family saw me? As nothing more than a convenient solution to their childcare dilemma? I felt like my role as a grandmother, a role I had eagerly anticipated, was being overshadowed by expectations that I never agreed to.

It was time to set things straight. The next day, I invited my son and daughter-in-law over for a heart-to-heart conversation. It wasn’t easy — articulating my feelings without coming across as unsupportive was a delicate balance.

I explained that while I cherished my time with the twins and loved being involved in their lives, I needed to establish boundaries. I was happy to babysit occasionally, but I didn’t want it to become an obligation.
