Nathan’s search for me was genuine, and I knew he would eventually come looking in all corners of our home. True to my expectations, I heard his footsteps descending the stairs toward the kitchen. When he pushed open the door, his eyes landed on me, surrounded by towers of china and crystal.
“Darling,” he began with a chuckle, taking in the sight of his wife, elbow-deep in soapy water. There was warmth and understanding in his eyes — he knew exactly what I was doing. I smiled back, shrugging slightly as if to say, “Caught me.”
