Only crumbs remained while my mother-in-law, Linda, and her friends lounged on the couch, looking smug. “That cake was for my wedding, Linda! How could you?” I cried. “Oh, please,” she sneered. “It was just a cake. And honestly, it wasn’t even that good. Don’t expect me to pay for it either.”
