She looked down, the resolve in her eyes wavering. The twins looked up at her, small hands clinging to her coat. Their needs were immediate, her own pride seemed insignificant in comparison. Finally, she nodded. “Okay, Alex. We’ll come with you. But only until I can get back on my feet.”
A wave of relief washed over Alexander. He rose and extended his hand to Sophie, helping her to her feet as she gathered the girls. “It’s settled then. Let’s get you all some food and a warm place to stay.”
They walked to his car, the twins’ eyes wide with amazement at the sleek vehicle. “Wow, Mommy,” one of them whispered, clutching Sophie’s hand. “It’s like a spaceship!”
