Meanwhile, my absence at home was noted. Melissa and David began to ask where I went each day. At first, I gave vague answers, but soon I invited them to an event at the community center. Reluctantly, they agreed to come.
To my surprise, seeing me in action changed the way they viewed me. The children’s faces lit up when I walked in, and the other volunteers greeted me warmly.
